Steel Fabrication

What is Steel Fabrication?

Steel fabrication is a secondary manufacturing process, and can be achieved through several methods, such as cutting, bending, and joining metal pieces during assembly.

What are steel fabrications used for? Steel fabrications are used to create things we use every day, such as buildings, stairs, guardrails, bollards, mezzanines, etc. This is the process of taking a raw piece of material, or two separate pieces of material, and bending them to the desired shape, or using a high heat source of energy to bring two separate pieces of material together. In construction, steel fabrication includes both structural and miscellaneous steel components of a building.

Steel Fabrication Use in Construction

Steel fabrication has many significant uses when it comes to building construction. The overall strength of a steel structure tends to be greater than those built with competing building materials and reach greater heights and spans over greater distances without added support systems in place. Another major advantage of steel fabrication is the speed of construction, as most fabrication is performed in the shop, the actual construction time is drastically decreased. In the field, most of the required construction is reduced to bolting and welding in the field, while most competing construction materials require alterations in the field before construction can truly begin.

Why Choose Sheridan?

Sheridan is aided by our sister company, Kodiak Steel. Kodiak Steel is a local distributor of metal building products and construction materials. Through our partnership with Kodiak Steel, Sheridan Construction can offer more immediate availability of materials and superior cost control.

One of the benefits of building with Sheridan is our in-house, full-service fabrication shop. Our shop can fabricate a multitude of structural and miscellaneous steel assemblies to support our construction efforts in the field.
