Constructed at Brunswick Naval Air Station, this project is the result of an agreement between the Navy and The Gulf of Maine Aquarium Development Corporation who have worked for many years to find a harbor site for the "Katahdin to the Sea" Aquarium and research center. This project paves the way for a world class aquarium to be located at the present site of the Naval Reserve Center on Commercial Street in Portland. Essentially, the Navy has traded their harbor site for a new building on Base.
